My awesome husband has just booked a place for me on this Arvon Foundation course at The Hurst in Shropshire, which used to belong to John Osborne. The tutors who will be, hopefully, teaching me how to become a better writer are Kate Long and Luke Sutherland, which will be great! I am looking forward to this so much as I know that I love writing and want to be good at it, but am lacking direction and motivation right now.
It’s going to be amazing as there won’t be any internet access or mobile phone signal so I can really focus on the tutorials and with getting on with my writing. I’m also really looking forward to spending time with a small group of likeminded people so fully expect to live and breathe writing while I am there.
As part of my writing process, I’ve decided to try my hand at romantic fiction as a bit of an experiment and to put me outside my comfort zone a bit. Not too far outside though as I’ve decided to write a steamy romance set during Napoléon’s time in Egypt with a smoulderingly handsome French aristocrat with a shocking secret and a beautiful (of course!) and intrepid sister of an archaeology obsessed English nobleman as my main characters. I’m not sure how this will pan out but am having a lot of fun planning it!
